Do you need a speaker who understands nutrition?
I’ve got the gift of the gab, and the topics I most love to gab about revolve around the things I’m most passionate about: family nutrition, cooking with kids, and best practices for blogging and social media.
I’ve been speaking to health professionals and the public for well over 20 years, and my energy, enthusiasm, humor, and cooking savvy shine through on every keynote, workshop, and webinar.
ALEXA, PLAY MY FAVORITE PODCAST: Why Podcasts are the New Blogs:
This session is ideal for professionals who want to launch a new podcast, learn how to get booked as a guest on a podcast, or are curious about all the podcasting hype. Podcasts are growing in popularity—as of April, 2019, there were over 500,000 shows on Apple Podcasts alone—and RDNs from every sphere of dietetics are jumping in. Given today's on-the-go, multi-tasking lifestyles coupled with the ease of listening on one's smartphone, getting your daily dose of news, sports, knitting, and nutrition is so much easier when you use your ears versus your eyes. It is hard to read a blog when you’re cooking dinner, but listening to a podcast is a breeze.
RECIPE WRITING 101: Creating Healthy Recipes with Substance and Sizzle
Writing a good recipe is one of the most effective nutrition education tools an RD has at their disposal. By learning the fundamentals of a well-written recipe and visually appealing photos, dietitians in every sphere will be better positioned to reach consumers with messaging about healthy eating.
FROM DRAB TO DELICIOUS: Smartphone Food Photography Smarts
Designed for bloggers and dietitians who use food photography on varying platforms as part of their consumer education, this image-rich workshop provides instruction for taking delicious and nutritious smartphone food photographs and sharing them via social media. The workshop shows how to use natural light, basic composition guidelines, styling techniques, prop selection, and simple yet powerful post-production editing insight to create beautiful food photos. The session also includes food photography and editing done in real-time so attendees can see the workshop tips in action.
How to Deliver Dynamic Cooking Demos On-Site, Online, and on TV
Culinary demonstrations enable dietitians and foodservice professionals to communicate nutrition information to consumers; entertain their audiences; teach basic or advanced cooking skills; and showcase healthy recipes that are affordable, easy to prepare at home, and flavorful. Gaining the confidence to cook in front of a captive audience—on-site, online via a Facebook Live, or on TV—is a critical skill set for dietitians and other health professionals working in clinical, community, and private practice settings. During this session, attendees will learn how to organize and implement a dynamic cooking demonstration, assess audience, location, equipment, and recipe selection, and cook in front of a crowd or TV camera. One nutrient-rich recipe will be demonstrated, and volunteers from the audience will be included in the cooking demo.
"This session was engaging and entertaining. What a surprisingly helpful topic for media as well as professionalism in general."

"Best presentation of the symposium with useful information for TV spots. Loved all the prop ideas."
FAMILY MEALS MATTER: Barriers, Benefits, and Strategies for Eating Together
Despite the many proven benefits of family dinners for both body and soul, just 30% of families eat dinner together every night. This session explores the benefits of family mealtime, the surprising barriers, and creative and doable strategies from real-life parents for nurturing family mealtime.
"This was my favorite session. The presentation was grounded in research, and the topic was very relevant. Great job!"
"A fabulous speaker who connected with the audience."
"I found this session extremely useful for my current career in dietetics as a community nutritionist working with young families in the WIC program. Great audience participation!"
PICKY EATERS: There is a Bright Light at the End of the Tunnel
Armed with a winning repertoire of kid-friendly recipes, practical mealtime tips, and motivational messages, I show fellow parents how to make their picky eater more adventurous. Tailored to your group’s needs, the presentation can include a talk or a hands-on workshop demonstrating main dish meals, lunch box favorites, vegetables kids love, and healthy snacks, smoothies, and desserts.
SECRETS TO MEALTIME SUCCESS: More Variety, Better Nutrition, Fun Flavors
This workshop features five simple things you can do today to boost your family’s nutritional GPA. Learn how to add variety, more nutrition, and a world of new flavors to your everyday meals, and get out of the snack rut with delicious alternatives to packaged, highly processed (and marketed!) kid foods. Hands-on cooking demo is an option for this workshop.
EAT THE RAINBOW: Let’s Get Cooking!
Children learn by doing, so when I visit classrooms, I work with students to create edible rainbows (and even Halloween skeletons) out of colorful fresh fruits and vegetables; together, we make delicious and nutritious dips for veggies, and we whip up fruit and vegetable smoothies and smoothie bowls. The kids learn how to calculate the amount of sugar in soft drinks and other sugary foods, and we read books that reinforce good nutrition messages.
