Engagements

Do you need a speaker who understands nutrition?

Liz Weiss Speaking Engagements

I’ve got the gift of the gab, and the topics I most love to gab about revolve around the things I’m most passionate about: family nutrition, cooking with kids, and best practices for blogging and social media.

I’ve been speaking to health professionals and the public for well over 20 years, and my energy, enthusiasm, humor, and cooking savvy shine through on every keynote, workshop, and webinar.

ALEXA, PLAY MY FAVORITE PODCAST: Why Podcasts are the New Blogs:
This session is ideal for professionals who want to launch a new podcast, learn how to get booked as a guest on a podcast, or are curious about all the podcasting hype. Podcasts are growing in popularity—as of April, 2019, there were over 500,000 shows on Apple Podcasts alone—and RDNs from every sphere of dietetics are jumping in. Given today's on-the-go, multi-tasking lifestyles coupled with the ease of listening on one's smartphone, getting your daily dose of news, sports, knitting, and nutrition is so much easier when you use your ears versus your eyes. It is hard to read a blog when you’re cooking dinner, but listening to a podcast is a breeze.

The session also includes food photography and editing done in real-time so attendees can see the workshop tips in action.

How to Deliver Dynamic Cooking Demos On-Site, Online, and on TV
Culinary demonstrations enable dietitians and foodservice professionals to communicate nutrition information to consumers; entertain their audiences; teach basic or advanced cooking skills; and showcase healthy recipes that are affordable, easy to prepare at home, and flavorful. Gaining the confidence to cook in front of a captive audience—on-site, online via a Facebook Live, or on TV—is a critical skill set for dietitians and other health professionals working in clinical, community, and private practice settings. During this session, attendees will learn how to organize and implement a dynamic cooking demonstration, assess audience, location, equipment, and recipe selection, and cook in front of a crowd or TV camera. One nutrient-rich recipe will be demonstrated, and volunteers from the audience will be included in the cooking demo.

"This session was engaging and entertaining. What a surprisingly helpful topic for media as well as professionalism in general."
"A fabulous speaker who connected with the audience."
"Best presentation of the symposium with useful information for TV spots. Loved all the prop ideas."

EAT THE RAINBOW: Let’s Get Cooking!
Children learn by doing, so when I visit classrooms, I work with students to create edible rainbows (and even Halloween skeletons) out of colorful fresh fruits and vegetables; together, we make delicious and nutritious dips for veggies, and we whip up fruit and vegetable smoothies and smoothie bowls. The kids learn how to calculate the amount of sugar in soft drinks and other sugary foods, and we read books that reinforce good nutrition messages.
